Born in Minnesota, Sheila Rieman grew up in rural North Dakota and studied at North Dakota State
University and with master pastelist Albert Handell. From 1980, she has been dedicated to that medium,
although she works in other mediums as well. Rieman worked in a studio, which was an early 1900's
schoolhouse in Leonard, North Dakota. Sheila is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, the
American Academy of Women Artist, the Midwest Pastel Society, and the Pastel Society of New Mexico. She was
commissioned to create four of the annual event posters for Equine Affaire Horse Exposition. Rieman was also a
cover artist featured in the Pastel Page of American Artist Magazine. In addition to the 2002 Artist's Choice Award
and the 1994 Tuffy Berg Award at the C.M. Russell Art Show, her work has received numerous top awards from
pastel societies and other juried exhibitions across the nation. She had a solo show at the Plains Art Museum in
Fargo, N.D. in 2003. Galleries in North Dakota, Minnesota, Montana and Wyoming represent her work, which
hangs in hundreds of private and corporate collections here and abroad. In 2004 the artist moved her studio to
Sentinel Butte, N.D.
