White-coated Greyware Sheep that was Mingqi from the Han Dynasty or thereabouts. White was the color of Immortality and Transformation of the Spirit into the next world, and coated animals for the tomb were important substitutes for killing the real animal. It was "the Spirit that counts"! Seated with his head slightly turned to the left, he also may have been considered a guardian spirit. Shaanxi Province, 5-3/8" nose to tail, circa 100AD +/-.
