SHAW, CLAY
813. CLAY SHAW (d. 1974) New Orleans businessman and alleged acquaintance of Lee Harvey Oswald. From Oswald's involvement in Fair Play for Cuba, District Attorney Jim Garrison charged Clay with conspiracy in Kennedy's assassination, proving Clay was a CIA operative, but ultimately lost the case after ruining Clay financially. Exceptional rare and fine association signed book, American Grotesque by James Kirkwood, Simon & Schuster, New York, 1970, inscribed by Shaw on the blue front pastedown: "For Martin - Beloved physician and dear friend with affection and admiration. Clay Dec. 1970". Also signed by the author and recipient. The book damns Garrison and his investigation and sets forth examples of flimsy evidence, shaky witnesses, and so on. Near fine condition, with worn dust jacket. $300-500
