SHARPS MODEL 1865 CATRIDGE CONVERSION CARBINE
WITH CUSTER BATTLEFIELD MARK. Cal. 45-70 (6- groove rifling). S# C43864. Bbl. 18 1/2" unmarked rnd. is fitted w/ standard Lawrence patent rear sight & brass blade front in high braised on stud. Usual Sharps action w/ correct patent date & marks has tape priming device (internals removed) & has been converted to center fire w/ camming firing pin. Walnut stock patchbox, has iron buttplate & saddle ring bar w/ ring on left side. CONDITION: fair. Bbl. retaining smooth brown patina. Action also mostly brown w/ some lighter highlights. Buttstock w/ hundreds of marks & dings has 25 notches cut on top of comb & 1 1/2" deep gash on left side. This side is also hand carved "CUSTER BATTLE"/ "FIELD"/ "76". Bore is good, lightly pitted w/ strong rifling. Action is good. Saddle ring & bar replaced w/ old original parts. Forend a new replacement w/ chips at rear of bbl. channel & file marks from fitting retaining band. (01-19393/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
