SHACKLETON, ERNEST HENRY
(1874 - 1922) British polar explorer who accompanied Scott in his attempt to achieve the South Pole, later he led another expedition which resulted in the destruction of his vessel by ice and an 800 mile voyage in an open help to seek help. Fine and rare A.Q.S. penned on a vintage album sheet, 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], Dec. 1918, in full: "Dark [?] lands for Youth to leap; Dim lands where Empires sleep, And all that dolphined deep where the ship's swing. (Anon) E. H. Shackleton N.R.E.F. Dec. 1918". Mounted to another sheet, boldly written and very good. On verso is another fine A.Q.S. by pioneer aviator CLAUDE GRAHAM-WHITE, 1p. 8vo., The London Aerodrome, Nov. 30, 1918, an eight-line poem, boldly penned and signed.
