<b>1264. SERGEI KOROLEV</b> (1907 - 1966) Chief designer and architect of the Soviet space program, the genius and inspiration behind Soviet space exploration, his very existence was kept a secret. Typed D.S., 1p. legal folio, [n.p., 1934], untranslated but apparently a series of mathematical calculations or test results concerning the CK-7 rocket or jet-propelled aircraft project, signed at left margin. Sold with a complete page of Korolev's notes of a similar nature, unsigned; with six original graphs of related results. Margins a bit chipped, else very good. In 1931 Korolev joined the Central Aero and Hydrodynamics Institute, and in 1932 he was appointed chief of Jet Propulsion Research Group, GIRD, one of the earliest state-sponsored centers for rocket development in the USSR. In 1933, the group was reorganized into the Jet Propulsion Research Institute, where Korolev led the development of cruise missiles and of a manned rocket-powered glider.
