TYPE I SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 38 Auto. S# 55972. Bbl. 5". Model 1910 semi-automatic pistol falling within the "Type I" variation S# range of 55700-56000 (just 27 S#s away from the highest recorded Type I S# "55999") as found on page 179 of "Webley & Scott Automatic Pistols" by Bruce Gordon. Left side of the slide is marked with the Webley & Scott winged bullet logo, followed by "WEBLEY & SCOTT LTD/ LONDON & BIRMINGHAM/ .38 AUTOMATIC PISTOL". Frame, slide, and bbl. exhibit British commercial proofs. Metal components exhibit a high polish blue finish overall, save for on the trigger and extractor, which exhibit a nickel plated finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered black vulcanite grips, each inscribed "W39" on the interior of the panels, and features a lanyard ring mounted on the left side beneath the grip panel. Grip screws are absent. Slide features the long pattern extractor and large pattern rear sight adj. screw. Integral blade front sight with horizontally adj. U-notch rear sight. Interior of slide matches the frame via "972". Underside of bbl. is stamped "2", which is also present on the left side of the frame beneath the grip panel. MAGS: 1 8-rd. with 7 transverse indicator holes. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting mild edge wear, scattered superficial handling marks, and scattered spots of light surface oxidation overall. Sides of frame exhibits small spots and patches of moderate pitting beneath the grip panels. Top flat of the breech has faded to a gray patina. Front face and edges of trigger have worn to a gray patina. Near mirror bore, exhibiting what appears to be some light pitting and hardened grease, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show light to mild wear, with some superficial handling marks overall. Approx. 930 Model 1910 .38 Automatic pistols were produced between all 3 variations, with the Type I variation production consisting of only approx. 55 pistols in total.
