Before the days of the white man it was tradition for girls to marry the gentleman of their father's choice. A traditional family being unable to care for their unmarried daughter took her out to the ocean. During a violent storm the father threw his child overboard. Sedna clung passionately to the boat. In desperation the father amputated the fingers at the first knuckle. The fingers fell into the water and became seals. When the second knuckle was cut and fell into the ocean thus the creation of walruses! The remaining fingers were amputation and the creation of whales.
Sedna then fell from the side of the boat and sank into the sea. There she resides as the mother of all the sea creatures.
