SCRIMSHAW MARITIME HANDCARVED HORN POWDER FLASK J HELMAN DATED 1805. The horn has been extensively carved with geometric patterning and two maritime cartouches, one with a bare breasted mermaid and the other with a lady holding a ships anchor. A name is carved around the base - J.Helman - and the date 1805. The mermaid has the initials SH carved into a ribbon scroll behind her. The powder flask measures 11 inches long. The metal top is original and has a wonderful patina. The spring is intact and still works well. The horn is in fine aged condition.
