SCHWARZBURG-RUDOLSTADT: Friedrich Günther, 1807-1867, AE 1/4 kreuzer, 1866, KM-175, J-12, mis-attributed to Wurttemberg on PCGS holder, a wonderful lustrous chocolate brown mint state example! PCGS graded MS64 BN, ex Joe Sedillot Collection. Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt initially sided with Austria during the war, along with many other smaller central and southern German states. This put the principality at odds with Prussia, which emerged as the dominant German power after the war. After Prussia's victory at the Battle of Königgrätz, Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, like other pro-Austrian states, was forced to submit to Prussia’s terms. It joined the North German Confederation in 1867, aligning with Prussia and marking a major shift in its political orientation. Despite the shift in alliances, the principality retained its internal sovereignty, though it became increasingly integrated into Prussia’s growing influence over northern Germany.
