SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN: Rebel Provisional Government, AE sechsling, 1850, KM-162, C-24, mint master initials TA, a wonderful lustrous chocolate brown mint state example! PCGS graded MS64 BN, ex Joe Sedillot Collection. In 1850, Schleswig-Holstein’s bid for independence from Denmark collapsed after Denmark's victory at the Battle of Idstedt and Prussia's withdrawal of support. Schleswig-Holstein rebels, who wanted independence from Denmark and unification with the German Confederation, had initially been supported by Prussia, but Prussia withdrew its support in 1850 due to diplomatic pressure. Although the war officially continued until 1851, by 1850, Denmark, backed diplomatically by the Great Powers of Britain and Russia was regaining control, ending the First Schleswig War in Denmark’s favor.
