Very Fine
United Artists, 1932

Posters from the 1932 release of this controversial film are extremely rare, with very little known to exist.

These scarce cards from producer Howard Hughes' gangster classic were printed for the film's original U.S. theatrical release and are not from a later printing. The first card depicts Paul Muni and Karen Morley and is unrestored with one pinhole in the image area, corner creases and a small border tear. The second of two cards a closer shot of the couple with C. Henry Gordon and exhibits one border pinhole, light corner wear, a thin dust shadow in the lower border and border smudges.

This classic gangster film, directed by Howard Hawks, stars Paul Muni, Ann Dvorak, George Raft, Karen Morley, and Boris Karloff. Despite enthusiastic reception from the general audience, the film faced heavy censorship and bans in many cities and states. The screenplay, loosely based on the life of Al Capone, was written by Ben Hecht, drawing from his experience at a Chicago newspaper. Due to extreme censorship, Howard Hughes pulled the film, and it was rarely seen for nearly 50 years until Universal reissued it.
