RIFLE. Cal. 6.5 Japanese. S# 2472 matches on receiver, extractor, trigger guard tang & bolt handle. Bbl. 31". Ladder rear sight graduated to 2400 meters. Inverted V front sight w/ protective ears. Adopted in 1937 the Type 97 Sniper rifle was slightly modified from the Standard Type 38 Infantry rifle. Equipped w/ a telescopic sight base on the left side of receiver, a longer turned down bolt handle & a lower bbl. band which is designed to accept a monopod which is not present on this rifle. The receiver has had the "mum" removed leaving the Type 97 characters. The receiver is marked on the left side with the Kokura interlocking circles & has the attached sliding scope mt. The telescopic sight is not present on this rifle. Bolt w/ turned down handle is equipped w/ a checkered notched safety knob. Bayonet lug is present. Cleaning rod is not present. Hardwood stock & handguard. Buttstock w/ typical 2 piece construction. Flat steel buttplate. CONDITION: original finish stock set has moderate wear w/ the extensive handling marks throughout commensurate w/ a military rifle which has seen long service. Grip has crack on right side from receiver tang curving forward toward the trigger approx. 2" long. Metal retains a large degree of its original blue finish w/ thinning & light wear. Trigger rear sight spring shows straw coloration. Follower shows original fire blue. Good shiny bore. (23-910/RW). CURIO. $1,200-1,500.
