SCARCE EARLY MARLIN MODEL 39 RIFLE IN EXCEPTIONAL
HIGH ORIGINAL CONDITION. Cal. 22 S, L, LR. S# S-13955. Bbl. 24" tapered oct. w/ Marlin firearms markings on top, fitted w/ Marbles folding leaf rear sight & Lyman gold bead front. Full length tubular mag. holds 16 long rifle or 25 short cartridges. Case hardened takedown action has blued hammer, bolt, takedown screw & trigger. A Lyman tang sight is fitted. Pistol grip stock of relatively plain American walnut has Ogee curve at bottom of grip and measures 13 3/8" over Marlin embossed hard rubber buttplate. Marlin bullseye is on toeline. Matching walnut forend has steel tip. CONDITION: very fine, all original. bbl. & mag. tube retaining approx. 95% original blue w/ some high edge wear & scuff at rear of top flat from sight elevator. Action retains over 90% original case hardening color w/ some freckling on right side & an area on top left w/ some removed rust, area now brown. Bottom of action retains nearly all of its original color. Lever retains most of its original color. Hammer & trigger retain over 80% original blue as does takedown screw. Bolt retains most of its blue w/ evidence of some light cleaning. Stocks retain nearly all of their original varnish finish, lightly crazed overall on butt. Buttplate remains in very fine condition w/ no chips. Bright, sharp, shiny bore. Mechanically excellent. The early Model 39s including those w/ an S prefix (for standard velocity) are known for their superior workmanship & finish.
