SCARCE EARLY FOUR-SCREW COLT 51 NAVY-ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 36 Perc. A most unusual and rare gun with 4-screw frame, flat head hammer screw and protruding 4th screw. It has the usual 7-1/2” oct bbl, New York address, with 1-pc walnut grips. An “0” is stamped below the frame serial number and it has the rare lanyard ring stud just in front of the trigger guard, which is the large type with a brass backstrap. Comments extracted from the book “’51 Colt Navies”, discloses that this may be a piece tested by the military, although it has no visible inspector marks. Regardless of whether the military tested it or not, this is a rare Navy. SN 127940. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl retains 40-50% thin blue, strong in the sheltered areas with the balance a medium patina. The rammer has traces of case colors on the pivot. The frame retains 25-30% dark case colors with the balance a silver/brown patina. The trigger and backstrap retain 25-30% thin silverplate around the trigger guard with the balance a medium mustard patina. Grips are sound with some slight battering on the right side and bottom left edge and retain traces of original finish. The cylinder is mostly a /brown patina and retains 25-30% original scene.
