Measures 7 1/2" x 9 5/8". A one and a quarter long page letter, along with a small note. It discusses the sale of parcels and a slave, "The present will inform you that Mr. Gudson [sic] has sold your fellow Robert for $500- at auction to Mr. Tate L. Gantt [sic]. . . ." The slave had not been sold for a while and had also been sick, so because of that, the expenses "will be a heavy drawback". The letter is signed Robert Brown & Co. Addressed on the back from Robert Brown & Co. to Samuel Lawrence Esq in Gillisonville(sp?) South Carolina. Stamped in orange May 27. Dark brown ink on light blue paper with foxing, stains, deep folds and one tear on the reverse. The small note that accompanies the letter is dated March 4 1844 and signed by Luther Hills discussing received payments. Overall condition of lot is good.
