Politically savvy wife of the eleventh President of the United States (1845-49) who after her husbands passing, continued to live at “Polk Place” in Nashville. The house became a place of pilgrimage during the Civil War. Mrs. Polk held herself above sectional strife and received with dignity leaders of both Confederate and Union armies, all of whom respected Polk Place as neutral ground. ALS “<i>Mrs. James K. 1. Auction Catalogue No. 19 is a Mail, Fax, Phone, Email and
Internet Live Bid Auction and is conducted under the laws of the State
of West Virginia by Gil Griggs, Licensee of Charleston, W. V. License
No. 002.
2. Absentee bid closing date is April 5th, 2002, 10:00 PM EST.
3. There is a 15% Buyer’s Premium charged on the final hammer price
of each lot. An additional 2½% Premium will be added to any lots
purchased through ebayliveauctions.com.
4. The Auctioneer reserves the right to reject any bid for any
reason.

6. In the event of duplicate high bids, the earliest bid received
will be the winner.

providing that it comes back in the same condition. There is a
