In this photograph one of the models is placed in the starkly pruned garden of Francis Place, somberly staring at the ground where a tree has been uprooted and replaced with a patch of new sod. The mood is one of isolation and withdrawal, two prominent elements intertwined in the adolescent psyche. The walled garden emphasizes the sense of isolation that Jones captures in these staged photographs. The life-size format and the dark sky beyond the garden wall contribute to the deliberate theatricality of the piece.
