President of the Continental Congress and Signer of the Declaration of Independence Samuel Huntington of Conn.
SAMUEL HUNTINGTON (1731-1796). Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Connecticut, served as President of the Continental Congress (September 28, 1779 to February 28, 1781) and after the Articles of Confederation were ratified, he was technically the First President of the United States of America (March 1-July 6, 1781).
May 30, 1787-Dated Partly-Printed Document Signed, “Sam, Huntington” as Governor, 12.75” x 8”, 1 page, Hartford, (CT), Very Fine. Being a Military Commission appointing Amaziah Humphrey as “Ensign of the first Company or Trainband in the 18th Regiment in said State...” Overall attractive having some minor fold splits, two minor central fold holes and light wear, being boldly printed with rich deep brown ink manuscript completed portions on clean period laid paper. The State of Connecticut official Seal was previously removed and has been nicely restored with a proper color Xerox and fitted into place making it appear natural to the eye from the front when displayed. The signature of Samuel Huntington is beautifully written in rich deep brown ink measuring about 2.5” long. This document that will be nice to frame and display.
