SAMANID: Nuh II, 943-954, AV dinar (4.17g), al-Muhammadiya, AH333, A-1454A, Miles-172, Zeno-252236 (same dies), very rare type for Nuh II, with Qur'an sura 112 filling the obverse field as on the Umayyad silver dirhams, struck at Samarqand in 332 and at four different western mints in 333, including al-Muhammadiya, strong EF, RRR. The city of al-Muhammadiya (Rayy) was under Buwayhid siege late in 333. In 334, coins were issued there in the name of the Samanid rebel Ibrahim, likely by a local authority opposed to Nuh II, but apparently also unwilling to accept Buwayhid suzerainty. Later in 334 or very early 335, Rayy fell to the Buwayhids, and there are no later Samanid issues from al-Muhammadiya.
