Hand tinted, and presumably an enlargement of a smaller photograph. In a gilt frame with old inked paper label "At Warrenton Va. July 1863 after Gettysburg. Horse of William Wheeler - 13th NY Battery. Artillery Brigade 11th Corps -- Wm. H. Mickle 1st Lt. 134 Regt N.Y. Vols. Assigned to this brigade on South Mt. Md. July 9th '63." Wheeler, a New York City native and member of Baker's Brigade Battery, was killed on 6/22/64 at Marietta, Georgia. Image VG-VG+, original paper mat with stains at margins.
