SALESMAN SAMPLE FLEMING LIFEBOAT WITH ORIGINAL CARRYING CASE.
Spectacular miniature wooden hand-propelled lifeboat with exceptional detail. Beginning with a finely crafted hull of individual slats, the interior features seats for 24 (some shared) with 12 levers (some detached) that the passengers would work back and forth to engage the propeller. This model has a hand crank to show the motion of the levers. Side of hull is designed as a semi-cutaway to show that no details were spared in the boat's creation. The boat rests on its pull-out display board that fits perfectly within its original wood carrying case. Accompanied by a vintage booklet produced by Fleming to show the features and operation of the boat and includes several black and white photos of it in use and ships on which this lifeboat was used. It is further accompanied by a few items on Fleming stationery boasting the product as well as a November 1938 Time Magazine in which William McFee (New York Sun columnist) is pictured with what appears to be this very model which he created. A truly amazing find! SIZE: 31" l x 10" w x 6-1/2" h. CONDITION: Very good to excellent overall with some minor broken, repaired or missing parts. Minor wear here and there. Handle to detachable rudder appears to be a replacement. Original case is very good plus with replaced lock which does not fit nor detract from this outstanding nautical item. 1-13119
