Smith & Wesson Under-Sheriff Robert Squires Commemorative Model 29-3 Double Action Revolver, #AEY2622, .44 mag. cal., 5-3/4'' barrel, nickel finish, smooth walnut grips with Orange County Sheriff's medallions. In Dec. 1912 an intense manhunt near Lake Forest, Calif. ended with the first slaying of an Orange County lawman in what was then the hill country east of Tustin. Orange County's 5th Sheriff, Charles Ruddock, assembled a posse of approx. 150 men to track down approx. four local criminals, and although the shooter has never been identified, one was believed to be an out-of-work drifter, and despite the hundreds of flying bullets during the ''Tomato Springs'' shootout, one of the culprit's deaths is suspected to have been a suicide. Complete in French-fitted walnut case with copy of early Deputy's badge and small disc commemorating the event. Condition is excellent. A seldom seen S&W Commemorative. Est.: $750-$1,000.
