S. T. Dupont Gold Plated Ligne 1 Gas Lighter 1960s
Featured in this lot is this 1960s S. T. Dupont Ligne 1 gas lighter made in Paris, France. A renowned French luxury company called S.T. Dupont is well-known for its high-end lighters, pens, leather goods, and accessories. The company has been around since the late 19th century, and its lighters in particular have won recognition for their high quality and craftsmanship on a global scale. Simon Tissot Dupont established S.T. Dupont in 1872 in Paris, France. The business initially focused on producing leather wallets and briefcases for the elite. Early in the 20th century, S.T. Dupont increased the range of its offerings to include opulent travel bags and lighters. The "Ligne 1" lighter, which S.T. Dupont introduced in 1941, is its most famous product. With a distinct rectangular shape, a hinged lid, and a single thumb-push ignition, this design was revolutionary. Many S.T. Dupont lighters are known for their unique features, such as the famous "ping" sound they make when opened, which has become synonymous with the brand. The lighter shows a gold plate construction with the respective stampings on the bottom of the lighter reading, "S. T. Dupont Made in Paris France" and the stamped serial number reading, "82JER99". The lighter shows a barley grain design on all sides of the lighter. The lighter shows good condition overall with very little wear to the case and no obvious signs of damage are present. The lighter has no gas or flint, but comes in the original black faux leather case. The lighter measures 1/2" L x 1 3/8" W x 2 1/4" H and weighs 103.8 grams. The case measures 4" L x 2 3/4" W x 1" H.
