Dovetailed brass blade front and notch rear sights, with "S. Shillito. &. Son." on the top flat, an unmarked lock plate, double set triggers. Smooth stock, with a brass tip, wood ramrod, hand rest trigger guard, a raised cheekpiece, an engraved, spring loaded brass patch box lid with pierced-through hinge design, and a smooth curved buttplate. Notes from the consignor identify the makers as Samuel and S.M. Shillito of Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, circa 1836-1852. Sam Shillito was a veteran of the War of 1812 and the Battle of North Point, where American skirmish forces stalled the British advance on Baltimore, killing British Major General Robert Ross in the process.

Condition: Good as partially refinished, with a mixed artificial brown patina on the barrel, areas of gray, mild handling marks and pitting around the drum. The hammer has been cleaned, and the lock shows a mixed gray/black color. The stock is good, with some chips and cracks, scratches opposite the lock and below the cheekpiece, and scattered handling marks. Mechanically very good.
