U.S. Vaterland was the largest liner afloat in 1914; Made to be a luxery liner; After only seven crossings across the Atlantic; She was immobilized by the insane war between England and Germany. On April 6, 1917, this fantastic ship was officially seized in an almost comical military operation; 300 crew members were taken to Ellis Island and offered American Citizenship; therefor, the ship became a troop transport for their creators' enemies; kind of like converting the Ritz into army barracks. She was renamed the "Leviathan" By American President Wilson and after seven months began her second career carrying 100,000 American soldiers making 19 round trips until the end of the war. The US Government turned her back into a luxery liner but due to the massive size and speed of this ship, It was not uncommon for her to cross the Atlantic with 700 or 800 passengers served by a crew of over 1,200. When the Great Deppression hit she sailed very few times. January 1938, she sailed for the last time to her graveyard, Rosyth in Scotland, where she would be cut into scrap; So you can see how rare an actual menu made and used on this luxery liner would be; This rare find is in amazing condition considering it's age. The menu shows aging but no rips, tears, or stains. Menu is dated May 27th, 1925.
