Evenly worn with choice rims all around and lovely orange-gold patina. This, along with several other Territorials consigned to the sale, come from the shipwreck of the S. S. Central America that sank in 1857 off the east coast during a storm. It is more than likely a part of the vast assortment of coins and gold bars destined for the banks of New England where there was a business panic then at its height. With the loss of so much gold, the panic turned into the Great Depression of 1857 as it spread around the world. (SSCA 7000)
