TLS signed “Fond love, Sam,” two pages, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, April 28, 1970. Letter to director George Cukor, in part: "My instinct told me that if I wished to disinter some forgotten personalities, I could not do better than to write to you whose instinct for the submerged is infallible…As you know, Sonia was the dearest creature in the world and seldom enraged. One day the name of Berthold Brecht was mentioned and she said with real passion: 'I wish he had never been born.' I wondered why. I wondered whether it could be because Brecht had influenced Serge and Tamara so that neither of them could get jobs being your first assistants. They might not have gotten them anyway even without Brecht. I acknowledge your gifts to me, especially the throbbing view of Worcester, Mass. It drowned me in nostalgia. The round robins I also received but I prefer you undiluted. Dear George, what I remember is a brief interlude in your house when I was staying with the Gershwins, and you showed me some precious, private things such as an intricately embroidered and rashly opulent phylacteries." In fine condition.
