This is a unique souvenir cup, commemorating the San Francisco Mint. It was crafted by San Francisco jeweler William Keyser Vanderslice, one of the oldest such establishments on the Pacific Coast. The cup appears to be silver plated as there is no silver grading mark. The maker’s mark is Vanderslice’s signature California Bear Flag signature. There is also an address on the bottom, 810 Montgomery St. that establishes that this piece was made some time between 1860 to 1863, the years his store was at that location. The cup measures 4”x 3” is done in a floral design and shows some wear. It is in great condition considering its age. This is a nice example of the artisan’s craft.
