S.A. GRUPPENFUHRER'S UNIFORM
From an S.A. officer attached to the Feldherrnhalle

Complete late model (ca. 1942) S.A. gruppenfuhrer's uniform, complete with tunic, shirt, trousers, collarless shirt, button-on collar, necktie, and (enlisted man's) belt and buckle. The tunic, near faultless, bears a Feldherrnhalle ("Field Marshals' Hall) cuff title, arm band with RZM tag tacked to the tunic, with appropriate collar tabs and red-trimmed epaulette (also with RZM label). Lining bears a few stains, otherwise the tunic is fine with no evidence of any exterior stains, mothing or any other damage. The wool trousers bear a button fly and hook and catch closure, with a tightening strap at the rear and suspender buttons. They bear the appropriate red piping, which alone bears a few tiny moth nips. The shirt and collar bear all original buttons, although the shirt bears a very small eroded hole well below the chest area and a stain on the back of the neck. An RZM tag is present, loose, and we have placed it in the pocket of the tunic. An inappropriate SS FM cufflink is attached to one sleeve. Brown necktie with RZM cloth tag is also present. A slightly-used S.A. belt, buckle and shoulder strap are present, albeit one issued to a man of lower rank. Finally, the officer's kepi is present, brown wool with red side band and silver bullion piping and trim, leather chin strap present and completely intact. The interior of the hat is excellent, with the sweatband and red/brown lining completely intact. Diamond-shaped cello present and fully sewn, although no maker's label is present. Overall a rare complete uniform in superb condition. On Friday morning, 9 November 1923, the Feldherrnhalle was the scene of a confrontation between the Bavarian State Police and an illegally organized march by the followers of Adolf Hitler. When ordered to stop, the marchers continued; the State Police felt threatened and opened fire. Four policemen and sixteen marchers were killed and a number were wounded, including Hermann Göring. Hitler was jailed for his participation and sent to Landsberg Prison, where he wrote Mein Kampf. The officer who wore this uniform possibly headed the honor guard at that site.

Estimate: $4,000 - 6,000.
