Rutherford B. Hayes autograph letter signed, dated 16 December 1889, from Fremont, Ohio, to Edward Bok, ''Ladies Home Journal'' editor. The letter, marked ''Private'', encloses two dollars for ''half a dozen copies'' of the December issue in which ''...an interesting account of Mrs Hayes' entertainments in the White House...'' appeared. Hayes was still mourning the June 1889 death of Lucy, his wife of 37 years. Signed: ''Rutherford B. Hayes''. The letter, measuring 5.25'' x 8.5'', shows minor creasing and soiling, else very good.
