Pioneer aviatrix and actress (1902–1977) who attempted to become the first woman to cross the Atlantic in 1927. She, her co-pilot, Captain George Haldeman, and her Stinson Detroiter were foiled by harsh weather, forcing a premature landing on the ocean after a flight of 2,623 miles. Vintage fountain pen signature, “My best wishes, Ruth Elder, Aug. 27, ‘28,” on an off-white 3.5 x 2.5 card affixed to an 8 x 10.5 album page with photos and newspaper clippings. In fine condition. Accompanied by album pages with additional photos and clippings affixed.
