Of quatrefoil outline, this rare footed
salt is from Moscow and dated 1861, the year
of the Emancipation of the Serfs by Emperor
Alexander II. The salt has lobed panels, an
everted
textured border and a gilt interior. On a
spreading
base of similar design.<p>
Moscow, the bowl stamped with the Cyrillic
initials of the assaymaster (silver tester) I.
Andreev, above the date of 1861 with
maker?s initials A.A. and 84, for
the Russian silver standard in zolotniks
(these two repeated on the base).<p>
This is a collector?s item of
historical significance that is reasonably
priced, due to its condition.<p>
