Finely hand-painted Russian black lacquer box depicting a dynamic battle scene with two mounted warriors in vivid hues of red, gold, and green against a dark background. The piece exhibits the signature style of the Palekh School, known for its miniature paintings on papier-mache boxes with exquisite detail and gold highlights. Signed and dated by the artist V. Karpukhin, 1975, in Cyrillic to the lower right. The underside bears the gold inscription "Made in USSR" and the interior retains its original red lacquer lining and certificate label. A remarkable example of Soviet-era Palekh artistry, capturing both folkloric and historical themes. N13623.
