For your consideration are a collection of four early trade bead necklaces, from the 1800's. These necklaces show a mix of cobalt blue and white glass trade beads with a rough finish. Trade beads were otherwise decorative glass beads used between the 16th and 20th century. Large blue beads were favoured early in the trade although details of when European trade with native American Indians began remains elusive. These beads were historically used as currency in exchange for goods. These beads show a deep cobalt blue throughout, and the white beads are an opaque color. All four are strung together by a grass twine strand. Overall these show in good condition considering age and use. The beads show a rough finish. The necklaces measure approximately 12.5" in strung length.
