A. J. Russell Civil War Albumen Photograph of Black Laborers in Virginia, 12.75" x 8.25", 18" x 12.5" overall, bearing a printed title on the mount just below the albumen which reads: "No. 294.--STOCKADE BUILT BY GEN. HAUPT, For the Protection of Government Property, enclosing Machine Shops and Yard of Orange & Alexandria Railroad." Irregular bottom margin to mount with light foxing at edges, a few light abrasions to photograph that do not detract from this remarkable piece of history. Housed in a modern 20" x 16" matt. The activities of Confederate partisans - especially those of John S. Mosby - gave Union commanders good reason to protect their supply lines and infrastructure.

Shipping: Flat Material, Large (view shipping information)
