Featured in this lot is this mixed material diorama called "Cheyenne Burial," by Native artist Running Crane. The diorama shows a wonderfully and professionally crafted mix material with wood, clay, hide, and leather construction. The diorama shows a raised Cheyenne burial with the structure supported by stacked rocks with a painted steer skull underneath and the body wrapped in hide with his bow and quiver of arrows and his ceremonial headdress above the body with his spear in the back and a painted shield hanging from the rung. The diorama is marked on the front 'Cheyenne Burial' and is marked on the back of the base "Running Crane '91". The condition of this raised carving shows a well preserved stature that shows no obvious signs of damage and great attention to detail of the painted objects. The measurements of this carving is 18" x 10 5/8" x 8 1/2". The collective weight of this carving is 12oz.
