Rufus King Jr. Autograph Letter Collection. Four letters, of varying sizes, written and signed by Rufus King. Two are on Wisconsin Active Militia Station; the other two are on personal stationery; they date between 1861 and 1863. Rufus King Jr. was an officer in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was awarded a medal of honor and brevetted Captain in June of 1862 for the bravery and courage he displayed during a seventeen hour stand off at White Oak Swamp Bridge in Virginia. His actions, and the actions of his unit, prevented the bridge from being taken by a superior Confederate force. The letters in this lot are of routine content. Rufus King served in the army until 1871; he was a brave officer and he is boldly represented by this lot. <r The letters in this lot are in fine condition on average; usual folds are present and slight soiling is along the fold lines. The letter dated October 1863, however, is in very good condition; several small holes as well as light staining mar the text. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
