Rudolph Dirks, James Swinnerton, Gus Dirks and F. B. Opper - Comic Supplement of the Examiner San Francisco (The Examiner San Francisco, 1901). This may perhaps be the first comic artist jam in American comics history! Rudolph Dirks, James Swinnerton, Gus Dirks, and F. B. Opper, all fabulously famous cartoonists at the turn of the century, worked together to make this page such a success. Their individual comics work included Little Bears by James Swinnerton, which first appeared in the San Francisco Examiner in 1892, The Katzenjammer Kids by Rudolph Dirks, which first appeared in The American Humorist in 1897, and F. B. Opper's Happy Hooligan, which began in 1900. This printed Sunday strip, which appeared on May 4, 1901, features Mama, Hans and Fritz meeting Happy Hooligan in a park. This one hundred plus year old printing is split in three places, but could still be considered in Good condition. The sheet measures 16.5" x 20.5".From the collection of Rudolph and John Dirks.
