Rudolf Hafner (1893-1951), Early Spring in Trins, Tyrol c. 1947
The present oil study by Rudolf Hafner depicts a Tyrolean landscape in early spring. Last winter’s snow has already thawed and thus the mountain meadows are illuminated in lush shades of green. Left and right the pastured is lined by trees. The Alps extend in the distance. With brisk strokes Hafner captured the landscape in a sketch-like manner so that in places the cardboard ground comes through. The broad brushwork and impasto paint application illustrate the liveliness of the Austrian nature.

The painting is in good condition. On the upper left the edge of the cardboard is slightly bent. The work is signed ‘RUDOLF HAFNER’ lower right. The verso bears the artist’s address label, inscribed by hand ‘Vorfrühlingsstimmung / Trins, Tirol / Ölstudie’, as well as a handwritten label ‘Ausgestellt / Künstlerhaus, Wien / 1947 / Rudolf Hafner’ and a dedication by the artist ‘Frau Herma Sypien / mit besten Wünschen / zugeeignet Juni 1948 / Rudolf Hafner’. The frame shows some wear. The framed work measures 56 x 77.5 cm, the artist's board measures 51.5 x 72 cm.
