German inventor and mechanical engineer, famous for the invention of the diesel engine, who died under mysterious circumstances in 1913. ALS in German, signed “Diesel,” on a 5.5 x 3.5 postcard, September 4, 1885. Translated postcard to Theodor Ackermann in Munich. In full: “I am requesting information on the titles and years of publication of the best and most complete works about the fabrication of spirit and compressed yeast, as well as on the construction of mills; also indication of the ceiling prices of these works. - I also ask in particular for these informations on the work of Schlegel, Complete Art of the Construction of Mills.” Several light pencil notations under text, show-though from postal cancellation on address side, and a uniform shade of mild toning, otherwise fine condition. At this time, Diesel was working for Carl von Linde, garnering numerous patents in both Germany and France.
