German physicist and mathematician considered one of the central founders of the science of thermodynamics (1822–1888). Uncommon ALS signed “R. Clausius,” one page, 5.5 x 8.5, July 8, 1855. Letter to Andrew Orr and associates. In part: “I have received the invitation…to attend the meeting of the British Association to be held in your town in September…Unfortunately my autumn holidays are but short, and they will this year be almost entirely taken up by a visit…to the Paris Exhibition…I therefore am afraid I shall be obliged to postpone.” In fine condition, with central vertical and horizontal folds. The very first Clausius example we have ever offered.
