Ruben Moreira - Exciting Comics #65 Black Terror
Ruben Moreira - Exciting Comics #65 Black Terror Splash Panel/Partial Page Original Art (Better Publications, 1949). One of the Golden Age's most fearsome heroes, the Black Terror, Richard Hughes' nemesis of crime, sprints across a starkly-lit stage in this heart-stopping moment from the chiller, "Death at 8:30!" Ruben Moreira, or "Rubimor," was one of the top talents of the Golden Age era, drawing the Tarzan newspaper strip in the mid-forties. The Black Terror sports one of the finest costumes in comics history. As Mike Benton noted in his illustrated history, Superhero Comics of the Golden Age, the Black Terror's "menacing 'skull and crossbones' black costume fit in well with the series' off-beat villains... world-conquering zombies, maniacal monks, and Chinese dragons." This spectacular splash panel/partial page has an overall size of 13" x 10". There are two tears in the panel; one is at the upper center and extends three inches to just above the Black Terror's cape; the second tear is along the right edge of the paper and extends two inches into the caption box, ending just beneath the word "gave" in the line "women gave their.." These tears do little to affect the overall eye-appeal of this scene and otherwise the art is in Very Good condition, with touches of blue pencil showing beneath the inks.
