<B>Edward VII Diamond and Enamel Royal Presentation Stickpin</B></I><BR><I>Circa 1902</B></I><BR><BR>Designed as an oval royal blue enamel plaque applied with the gold initial <I>E VII</B></I> for Edward VII, King of Great Britain and Emperor of India (r. 1901-1910), surrounded by gold laurel leaves and berries enhanced with nine graduated old mine-cut diamonds measuring 2.5 to 4.5 mm, below a Royal British crown, the gold reverse inscribed <I>Presented by his late majesty King Edward VII on the occasion of the performance of " A Cigarette Makers Romance" at Sandringham January 11th, 1902</B></I>-enameled plaque-7/8 in long; the pin-2 1/4 in. long<BR><BR><I>Edward VII (1841-1910)</B></I><BR><BR>If Queen Victoria saved the British monarchy from possible abolition, her eldest son, Albert Edward of Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha, restored its popularity. An affable monarch and an excellent judge of men, the King was much more outgoing than his mother, who had become somewhat withdrawn upon the death of her consort, Prince Albert. Edward's name was bestowed on an era nostalgically remembered by Britons for its opulence and confidence.<BR><BR>Provenance: <BR>Given by King Edward VII to Mr. Martin Harvey, who with his wife and company performed "The Cigarette Maker's Romance" at Sandringham on the 11th of January, 1902.
