This is one of the earlier full-sized Staffordshire Royal Doulton figural jugs known as Mad Hatter. This jug has crisp features and detail. The painting and glazes are very nice- the face is very expressive and lifelike. On the back of the collar in relief is MAD HATTER. The handle, is a figurine of Dormouse perched on a pocket watch. The Hatter is a character of the 1865 story by English writer Lewis Carroll, Alices Adventures in Wonderland. In the story, a girl named Alice falls down a rabbit-hole into a fantasy realm populated by talking playing cards and anthropomorphic creatures. One of the most famous chapters includes the Hatters Tea Party, involving Alice, The Hatter, Dormouse, and the March Hare. This fine Staffordshire jug has been in my family for over 30 years! This jug measures (in inches): 7.5 tall X 7 Wide X 5 Deep, and weighs 1 Lb. 7 Oz. This item is in excellent condition with no repairs or restorations. The bottom is marked with registry marks and No. D.6598, Copr. 1964. The date is circa 1964. Shipping and Insurance USPS Priority Mail within the U.S. is $12.00. Thanks for bidding!
