LARGE Royal Copenhagen Polar Bear, standing and turning to one side. Approximately 6.5 inches high by nearly 11 inches long, this is one of the larger polar bear figurines made by Royal Copenhagen. Designed by Knud Kyhn, perhaps the best known and most respected animal modeler to work for Royal Copenhagen. This polar bear was put into production sometime before 1910 and is still in being made today -- a testament to the timeless appeal of this great figurine. Denmark owned Greenland until the 1950s, and has always had a special interest in arctic animals such as polar bears (which the Danes call "ice bears"). Hand painted under the glaze, mint condition, first quality (no scratch through the trademark), a great value!
