The first Marine ace was a World War II pilot, Captain Marion E. Carl of Marine Fighter Squadron 223,<B> </B></I>credited with 18.1/2 kills. In this print Carl leads his men against Japanese bombers on August 24th, 1942. His four victories in this battle (plus his one at Midway) made him the first ace in Marine Corps history.
