World War II ace (1919–2005) and founder of the Navy's flight demonstration squadron, the Blue Angels. Two items: TLS, signed “Butch,” one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, February 3, 1998. Letter to an admirer reads, in part: “During Guadalcanal campaign I flew from the marine Lunga River fighter strip. After the Battle of Santa Cruz, with the carrier Enterprise damaged, we went into the ‘Canal’ to reinforce the 1st Marines. The ‘Turkey Shoot,’ including the subsequent strike against the Jap fleet was a highlight of my career.”; and a glossy 10 x 8 photo of Voris passing command of the Blue Angels to Ray Hawkins, signed in blue felt tip by Voris and Hawkins.
