Sixteen plates & maps, some folding, incl. 8 titnted lithographic plates, one a folding panorama. Boiund in old half calf, t.e.g, spines heavily gilt decorated, marbled endpapers. Edges rubbed, some moderate peeling of leather, folding maps & folding plate linen backed, but overall a very clean, good & tight copy, completely free of foxing (2)

Perhaps the most successful and important 19th century Antarctic voyage, comparable to Parry's first Arctic voyage in its additions to the map, and in the context of its time. Ross made the first penetration of the ice-fields, and discovered the famous ice shelf now bearing his name, as well as Ross Island, and circumnavigated the continent.
