Ross Andru and Dick Giordano - Superman vs. Spider-Man, page 45 (DC/Marvel, 1976). After years of demand by the readerships of both companies, DC and Marvel finally put aside their long-standing rivalries and agreed to let their two most popular characters -- Superman and Spider-Man, naturally -- "cross over" into one gigantic adventure. The book was packaged in the oversized "Treasury" format, making it seem like quite an event indeed. To handle the art chores on this historic story, Marvel and DC drafted their top talent: penciler Ross Andru (the then-current artist on The Amazing Spider-Man), and inker Dick Giordano, a legendary brush-slinger who had inked most of Neal Adams' best DC work. Heritage Comics is proud to present six pages of original art from this landmark comic, offered as individual lots. These pages measure approximately 9 1/2" x 13", which, oddly enough, is more or less the actual publication size; it is possible that Andru worked in this smaller format to save time in getting this 96-page story (almost five times the length of a regular monthly comic!) completed on schedule. Offered in this lot is page 45, a terrific page that not only features some great shots of Spidey, but an amusing gag playing off Superman's history of changing clothes in a phone booth, a joke that was later stolen by the Christopher Reeve Superman film. Moderate white-out, especially on Peter's face in panel 3. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium.
